Yukhari Adyaman is a village in the Novo-Bayazid uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Garanlig (Martuni) district, and currently in the Gegharkunik province. The provincial centre is located 35 km to the southeast of the town of Kavar (Yeni Bayazid, Kamo), on the shore of Lake Goycha and at a height of 1,980 m above sea level. It was noted in “The Iravan Province Comprehensive Data Book” and marked on the five-verst map of the Caucasus.
The village was previously inhabited by Azerbaijanis who gradually left the village after Armenians had been settled in the area. Along with the Armenians, the village was inhabited by 12 Azerbaijanis in 1897. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Azerbaijanis were deported by Armenian militants. At present, the village is inhabited by the Armenians removed from the Alashkirt region of Türkiye in 1828–1829.
By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 7 December 1945, the village was renamed “Verin Getashen”. According to the law “On the Administrative-Territorial Division of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative territory of the Gegharkunik province.
