Ojaggulu is a village in the Alexandropol uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Duzkend (Akhuryan) district, and currently in the Shirak province. The provincial centre lies 3 km to the southwest of the town of Gumru, at a height of 1,500 m above sea level. Until 1937 it had been subordinated to the Leninakan district.

The village was originally inhabited by Azerbaijanis, and according to the Treaty of Adrianople (1829), after the settlement of Armenians from Türkiye, the population gradually left the village. The village was inhabited by six Azerbaijanis in 1897. In the early 20th century, the Azerbaijanis were deported from the village. At present, the village is inhabited by Armenians.

The toponym was coined on the basis of the personal name. It is an anthropo-toponym.

By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 26 April 1946, the village was renamed “Arapi”. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Shirak province.
