Novlu

Novlu was a village in the territory of the Sharur-Daralayaz uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Keshishkend (Yeghegnadzor) district, and present-day Vayots Dzor province. It was located near the village of Keshishkend and to the northwest of Tepesidalik Mountain.

The village was solely inhabited by Azerbaijanis: 157 in 1873, 216 in 1886, 215 in 1897, 398 in 1904, 437 in 1914 and 235 Azerbaijanis in 1916. The Azerbaijanis were attacked, massacred or ousted from the village by Armenian armed formations in 1918. The Armenians removed from Iran were settled in the village. The village was abolished in 1924- 1925. At present, it lies in ruins.

The toponym was coined by adding the possessive forming suffix “–lu” to the word “nov” meaning “a canal, an irrigation ditch” in Azerbaijani.
