Mughanjig

Mughanjig was a village in the Echmiadzin uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Uchkilsa (Echmiadzin, Vagharshapat) district, and currently in the Armavir province. It was located at a distance of 5 km from the settlement of Uchkilsa. Later, the name of the village was officially documented as “Mughan”. It was noted as “Mughanli” in “The Iravan Province Comprehensive Data Book” compiled in 1590 and “The Iravan Province Review Book” compiled in 1728 and marked as “Mughanjig” on the five-verst map of the Caucasus. The village was destroyed as a result of the massacre committed by Armenian armed units in 1905–1906.

The toponym was coined on the basis of the Turkic ethnonym “Mughanli”.
