Kharatgah

Kharatgah was a winter pasture located in the territory of the Gazakh uezd of the former Yelizavetpol (Ganja) governorate, later in the former Dilijan district, and currently in the Lori province. It was located near the village of Polad Ayrim (Khachardzap).

The pasture was inhabited by 19 Azerbaijanis in 1897. It was dissolved in 1908.

The toponym was coined by combining the Turkic tribal name “Kharatli” ( the suffix “-lı” has dropped in the toponym) and the word “gah” (kaha) used in the sense of “a natural or artificial hollow in a rock, in a mountain, cave” to denote “a winter pasture near the cave where the Kharat tribe lives”.
