Keshishkend

Keshishkend district was established on October 15, 1931. The center of the district, which had an area of 1134 km², was Keshishkend. The distance from there to Iravan is 122 km.

Salim village separates Keshishkend district from Goycha district. Arpa and Herher rivers flow through the region. It is surrounded by the Basarkechar plain on one side, and the Dereleyaz mountain range on the other.

The territory of the district was included in the Dereleyaz district of the historical Iravan khanate, and during the period of Tsarist Russia, it was included in the Sharur-Dereleyaz district of the Iravan governorate.

The name of the district was changed to “Mikoyan” by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated January 3, 1935, and it was renamed “Yehegnadzor” by the decree dated December 6, 1957.

Since 1987, the native inhabitants of the district – Azerbaijanis were forced to leave their places of residence. In 1995, the district was abolished and included in the administrative territory of Vayotsdzor province of Armenia.
