Azizbeyov secondary school in Iravan, entered the Faculty of Biology of the Azerbaijan State University in 1949, and graduated in 1954. H.Hasanov started his research activity at the Institute of Physiology in the same year, first as a laboratory assistant, then as a graduate student, and from 1957 as a junior researcher.

In 1958, he defended his dissertation and received the degree of candidate of biological sciences, and in 1961 he was promoted to the position of senior researcher. He defended his doctoral dissertation in 1967. In 1968, H.Hasanov, who was appointed deputy director for scientific affairs, a year later headed the Institute of Physiology named after A. Garayev of the Azerbaijan, as well as the “Brain and Behavior” department.

Huseyn Hasanov became a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR in 1972, and four years later he was elected a full member. Like many famous physiologists of the Republic, H.Hasanov’s scientific research activity began under the leadership of academician A. Garayev, and a large part of these studies was devoted to the study of the vegetative functions of the regulatory mechanisms of the central nervous system, the role of regulatory processes in the regulation of homeostasis of the internal environment of the body.

Huseyn Hasanov’s work has been presented at foreign conferences and congresses (Hungary, Romania), World congresses of physiologists (Munich, Delhi), World congress dedicated to higher nervous activity (Prague), Experimental neurosis symposium (Berlin), XVII International Congress of Physiological Sciences (Budapest), the III International Symposium organized by “Interbrain” at the I World Congress on brain research organized by UNESCO (Lausanne, Switzerland), etc. The work carried out under his leadership has made it possible to conduct completely new and interesting scientific considerations about the nervous and neurochemical mechanisms of the limbic system involved in food emotion and motivation.

Huseyn Hasanov was a chairman of the Azerbaijan Society of Physiologists, deputy academic secretary of the Department of Biological Sciences, deputy chairman of the editorial-publishing board of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences, member of the Association of Physiologists named after A. Garayev, member of the expert commission of the award named after K. Bykov, a member of the editorial board of the physiological magazine “Higher nervous activity”, a member of the editorial board of the Azerbaijan Encyclopedia. He was the author of more than 300 scientific works and 5 monographs, a textbook on the physiology of the central nervous system, as well as 2 booklets.

Under his guidance, 5 doctorates and more than 40 candidate of sciences defended their theses. For his scientific achievements, he was awarded the Azerbaijan SSR State Prize (1972), the bronze medal and diploma of the National Academy of Sciences (1972), and “the Order of the Badge of Honor” (1982).
