Garajalar

Garajalar or Mammadabad was a village in the territory of the Iravan uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Vedi (Ararat) district, and present-day Ararat province. Another name for the village was “Mammadabad”. It was located near the Vedi River and the village of Davali. The village was marked on the five-verst map of the Caucasus.

The village was inhabited by 33 Azerbaijanis in 1897. The village was devastated as a result of massacres committed by Armenian armed units in the early 20th century, in 1905–1906. At present, it lies in ruins.

The toponym was coined on the basis of the name of the Turkic Garajalar tribe.
