Boyuk Armudlu is a village in the Echmiadzin uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Gurdugulu (Hoktemberyan) district, and currently in the Armavir province. The provincial centre lies 11 km to the southeast of the town of Serdarabad (Hoktemberyan, Armavir), and at a height of 855 m above sea level.
The village was populated by 129 Azerbaijanis in 1831 and 52 Azerbaijanis in 1922. In 1930 Azerbaijanis were driven out of the village by the state of Armenia. Presently, only Armenians live in the village.
The toponym was created by adding the suffix “-lu” to the word “armud” and denotes “a place where there are pears”. The word “boyuk” (in Azerbaijani: great, big) in the initial position of the toponym denotes a distinguishing feature.
The village was renamed “Tandzut” by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 4 April 1946. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Armavir province.
