Batar was a village in the territory of the Zangezur uezd of the former Yelizavetpol (Ganja) governorate, later in the former Garakilsa (Sisian) district, and present-day Syunik province. The village was located on the mountainous site, on the right bank of the Min River.
The toponym was coined on the basis of the name of the Turkic Padar tribe belonging to the Gayi Turks.
