Baghchajiq is a village in the Echmiadzin uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Talin district in the present Aragatsotn province. The provincial centre lies at a 38 km distance from the town of Ashtarak and at a height of 1,175 m above sea level, at the south- western foot of Alagoz Mountain. It was marked on the five-verst map of the Caucasus.

The village was solely inhabited by Azerbaijanis: 10 in 1831, 82 in 1873, 93 in 1886, 140 in 1897, 101 in 1904, 107 in 1914 and 152 Azerbaijanis in 1916. In 1918 the Azerbaijanis, who were inhabitants of the village, were massacred or deported from their own historical-ethnic land having been exposed to Armenian aggression. At present, only Armenians live in the village.

By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 25 January 1978, the village was renamed “Partijak”. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Aragatsotn province.
