Ayghirgol is a village in the Echmiadzin uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Uchkilsa (Echmiadzin, Vagharshapat) district, and currently in the Armavir province. The provincial centre lies 12 km to the east of the town of Serdarabad (Armavir), on the Uchkilsa–Gurdugulu (Hoktemberyan) highway, by Lake Ayghirgol, and at a height of 870 m above sea level.
The village was originally inhabited by Azerbaijanis who gradually left the village after Armenians had been settled in the region. The Armenians settled in the village in 1926.
The name of the village orginated from the name of Lake Ayghirgol.
By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 25 January 1978, the village was renamed “Aknalich”. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Armavir province.
