Ashaghi Adyaman is a village in the Novo-bayazid uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Garanlig (Martuni) district, and currently in the Gegharkunik province. The provincial centre lies 34 km to the southwest of the town of Kavar (Yeni Bayazid, Kamo), by the Adyaman River, and at a height of 1,960 m above sea level. It was marked in “The Iravan Province Review Book”, and on the five-verst map of the Caucasus.
Those who had moved from the village of Adyaman called their new settlement “Ashaghi Adyaman”. The village was inhabited by 13 Azerbaijanis in 1897. The Armenians were removed to the village from the village of Topraggala of the Turkish region of Alashkirt and the Mush province in 1828–1829.
By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 7 December 1945, the village was renamed “Nerkin Getashen”. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Gegharkunik province.
