Almali

Almali was a village in the territory of the Sharur-Dereleyez uezd of the former Iravan Governorate, later in the Keshishkend (Yeghegnadzor) district, in the present-day Vayotsdzor province. The village was situated 14-16 km west of the center of Keshishkend settlement, north of the Yelpin village.

The village was inhabited by Azerbaijanis only: 172 in 1873, 231 in 1886, 277 in 1897, 313 in 1904, in 345 in 1914 and 360 in 1916, there were residents. In 1918, Azerbaijani residents were deported due to the aggression of Armenian armed groups. After the establishment of Soviet rule in present-day Armenia, some of the survivors were able to return to their villages. Later, the village was solely inhabited by Azerbaijanis as well: 100 in 1922, 94 in 1926, and 145 in 1931. In 1938–1939, Azerbaijanis were resettled from the village, and the village was abolished. It currently lies in ruins.

The toponym “Almali” is based on the Turkish ethnonym.
