Aghyarghan

Aghyarghan is a mountain in the Sharur-Daralayaz uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Pashali (Azizbeyov, Vayk) district, and present-day Vayots Dzor province. It is located in the northwest of Agkhach village. Its height is 2528 m. It is mentioned in Armenian sources as “Aghyorghan”.

The toponym was coined by combining the word “agh” used to mean “shallow” in Azerbaijani and the word “yarghan” used to mean “a large, long valley with steep slopes”.
