Aghmangan

Aghmangan is a 70-km-long mountain range stretching from Goycha to the Araz River, which covers the Gegarkunik (former Novo-Bayazid) and Kotayk (Akhta) provinces. Its highest peak is Gizildagh (its present name is Azhdahak) with a height of 3597 m.

The toponym was coined by adding the word “gan” used to mean “a place, territory” in Old Turkic to the Turkic tribal name “Aghman”. The present name of the mountain range is the “Gegham Mountain Range”.
