Abdalaghali is a village in the Novo-Bayazid uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Garanlig (Martuni) district, in the province of Gegharkunik. The provincial centre lies 75 km to the northeast of the town of Kavar (Yeni Bayazid, Kamo), and at a height of 1940 m above sea level. It is mentioned as Avdalaghal in the works of various Armenian authors and marked on the five-verst map of the Caucasus .

In 1897, along with the Armenian residents, there were also 10 Azerbaijanis. In the early 20th century, the Azerbaijanis had to leave the village from pressure by the Armenians. The toponym originated from the name of the Abdalaghali tribe based on the Turkic ethnonym “Abdal”.

By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 3 January 1935, the village was renamed “Vaghashen”.

According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dating 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Gegharkunik province.
