Ashaghi Altuntakht was a village in the territory of the Goycha area of the historical Iravan Khanate, later in the former Kavar (Yeni Bayazid, Kamo) district, and currently in the Gegharkunik province. The village has been abolished. At present, it lies in ruins.
The toponym was coined by combining the word “altun”, used in the sense of “red” in the names of volcanic rocks and the word “takht” meaning “a flat space of a mountain peak; a plateau”. The word “ashaghi” at the beginning of the toponym denotes a distinctive feature.
