Gargar or Gerger was a village in the Alexandropol uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Talin district, and currently in the Aragatsotn province.
The Azerbaijanis were attacked, massacred or ousted from the village by Armenian armed units in 1918. The village was abolished in 1920. At present, it lies in ruins.
The toponym was coined on the basis of the ethnonym “Gargar” mentioned in the Greek historian Strabo’s work “Geography”. The name of one of the oldest Turkic tribes “Gargar” was noted as “Gerger”, “Herher”, “Kharkhar” in different sources.
