Bughajig

Bughajig was a village in the territory of the Zangezur uezd of the former Yelizavetpol (Ganja) governorate, later in the former Gafan district, and present-day Syunik province. It was located in the forest.

The village was inhabited by 125 Azerbaijanis in 1897, 21 in 1922 and one Azerbaijani in 1926. The village was abolished in 1929–1930. It is in ruins now.

The toponym was coined on the basis of the Turkic ethnonym “Bughajik”. The name of this tribe is mentioned in “The Book of Dede Korkut”.
