Zal Khan Mosque

Zal Khan Mosque was one of the famous mosques located in the Sheher section, which was one of the oldest parts of the city of Iravan. According to Henry Lynch, the mosque was built in 1687 which was inscribed on the mosque wall in Azerbaijani Turkish with Arabic script. We can deduce  that the mosque located between the Gala and Tepebaşı massifs of Iravan and was built after the 1679 earthquake.

It was the courtyard and garden of the Zal Khan Mosque, which resembled the Blue Mosque. In 1928, the great hall of the mosque was destroyed and “Yerevan” hotel was built in its place. After reconstruction works were carried out in 1999, this place was named “Golden Tulip Hotel Yerevan”. The two-story building of the mosque was used as an exhibition hall.
