Yukhari Novruzlu was a village in the territory of the Iravan uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Gamarli (Artashat) district, and present-day Ararat province. The village was noted in “The Iravan Province Review Book” as “Novruzlu”.
The village was solely inhabited by Azerbaijanis until 1828. The Armenians removed from the Khoy and Salmas Counties of Iran were settled in the village in 1828–1830. Along with the Armenians, the village was inhabited by 37 Azerbaijanis in 1831, 115 in 1873, 158 in 1886, 180 Azerbaijanis in 1897 and 231 Azerbaijanis in January 1918. The Azerbaijanis were attacked, massacred or expelled from the village by Armenian armed units in 1918. The village was later abolished. At present, it lies in ruins.
