Yelenovka

Yelenovka district was established on December 31, 1937. Yelenovka city was the center of this district with an area of 374 km². The district was located on the shore of Lake Goycha, bordering Karvansara, Akhta, Kavar and Chambarak districts.

The territory of the district was included in the historical Derechichek district of the Iravan khanate, and during the period of Tsarist Russia, it was part of the Novo-Bayazid district of the Iravan governorate.

Local residents of Yelenovka district, located on the shore of Lake Goycha, were Azerbaijanis.

Since 1987, the native inhabitants of the district – Azerbaijanis were forced to leave their places of residence. In 1995, the district was abolished and included in the administrative territory of Gegarkunik province of Armenia.
