Yavarkend was a village in the territory of the Sharur-Daralayaz uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Keshishkend (Yeghegnadzor) district, and present-day Vayots Dzor province. The village was located 18 km to the northeast of the settlement of Keshishkend and near the village of Aghkend.
The Azerbaijanis were attacked, massacred or expelled from the village by Armenian armed units in 1918. Two Azerbaijanis lived in the village in 1922. The village wa abolished in 1924–1925. At present, it lies in ruins.
The toponym was coined by combining the words “yaver” meaning “a low ranking military official executing service assignments and other works at the headquarters under the high-ranking officers” and the geographical nomen “kend”.
