Yashil is a village in the Echmiadzin uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Talin district, and currently in the Aragatsotn province. The provincial centre is located 38 km to the northwest of the town of Ashtarak, to the west of Alagoz Mountain and at a height of 1,675 m above sea level. Another name for the village was “Yeshil”. It was marked on the five-verst map of the Caucasus.
The village was solely inhabited by Azerbaijanis: 18 in 1831, 235 in 1873, 227 in 1886, 410 in 1897, 255 in 1908, 273 in 1914, and 377 Azerbaijanis in 1916. The village was exposed to Armenian aggression, and its inhabitants of the village were deported from their historcial-ethnic lands in 1919, and the Armenians and Kurds from Türkiye were settled in the village. At present, the village is inhabited by Armenians only.
The toponym was coined from the word “yashil” which means the “green” colour.
By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 12 November 1946, the village was renamed “Kakavadzor”. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Aragatsotn province.
