Valiaghali is a village in the Novo-Bayazid uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Garanlig (Martuni) district, and currently in the Gegharkunik province. The provincial centre is located 28 km to the southeast of the town of Kavar (Yeni Bayazid, Kamo), near Lake Goycha, and at a height of 2,000 m above sea level. The village was marked on the five-verst map of the Caucasus.
The village had been solely inhabited by Azerbaijanis until 1828. Following the Treaty of Turkmanchay, the Armenians removed from Türkiye in 1828–1829 were settled in the village. Along with the Armenians, the village was inhabited by 41 Azerbaijanis in 1897. In 1905–1906 the Azerbaijanis were deported from their historical territories by Armenian armed units. At present, the village is inhabited only by Armenians.
The toponym was coined from the multi-generational family name “Valiaghali” formed by adding the identifying suffix “-li” to the personal name “Valiagha”.
In 1920 the village was renamed “Dzoragyugh”. It was integrated into the administrative territory of the Gegharkunik province according to the law “On the Administrative-Territorial Division of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995.
