Turabkhanli

Turabkhanli was a village in the territory of the Zangezur uezd of the former Yelizavetpol (Ganja) governorate, later in the former Gafan district, and present-day Syunik province.

The village was inhabited by 105 Azerbaijanis in 1897 and 123 Azerbaijanis in 1904. The Azerbaijanis were attacked, massacred or expelled from the village by Armenian armed units in 1918. Only after the establishment of Soviet power in present-day Armenia, the Azerbaijanis managed to return to their village. The village was inhabited by 27 Azerbaijanis in 1922, 19 in 1926 and 27 in 1931. In mid–1930s the Azerbaijanis were removed and the village was abolished. At present, it lies in ruins.

The toponym was coined on the basis of the multigenerational family name “Turabkhanli”.
