Talakend is a village in the Gazakh uezd of the former Yelizavetpol (Ganja) governorate, later in the former Karvansara (Ijevan) district, and currently in the Tavush province. The provincial centre lies 3 km to the northwest of the town of Karvansara, at a height of 700 m above sea level. In the works of Armenian authors it is noted as “Tala”.

The village was originally inhabited by Azerbaijanis and after the settlement of Armenians in the region, the population gradually left the village.

The toponym was coined by combining the word “tala” used to mean “a woodless area of the forest, glade, an open place in a forest” and the word “kend” used to mean “a settlement”. It is a toponym associated with a relief.

By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 25 January 1978, it was renamed “Getahovit”. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Tavush province.
