Shotanli

Shotanli was a village in the territory of the Zangezur uezd of the former Yelizavetpol (Ganja) governorate, later in the former Gafan district, and present-day Syunik province. It was located on the right bank of the Okhchu River.

The village was inhabited by 30 Azerbaijanis in 1897, 25 in 1922 and 19 in 1926. The village was abolished in the 1930s. At present, it is in ruins.

The toponym was coined by adding the identifying suffix “-li” to the ethnonym “Shato”, the heir of the Huns and means “the village of the Shato tribe”.
