Shorja was a village in the territory of the Sharur-Daralayaz uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Keshishkend (Yeghegnadzor) district, and present-day Vayots Dzor province. It was located near the villages of Amaghu, Arpa, and Ertish and on the bank of the Arpachay. The name of the village was marked on the five-verst map of the Caucasus.
The village was solely inhabited by Azerbaijanis: 31 in 1873, 56 in 1886, 73 in 1897, 76 in 1904, 83 in 1914 and 116 Azerbaijanis in 1916. The village was abolished after the Azerbaijanis had been attacked, massacred or expelled by Armenian armed units in 1918. At present, it lies in ruins.
The toponym was coined by adding the suffix “-ja” to the word “shor” meaning “a salty, saline place” in Azerbaijani.
