Shorandere is a valley in the Borcahli uezd of the Tiflis governorate, later in the former Barana (Noyemberyan) district, and currently in the Tavush province.

The toponym was coined by combining the word “shoran” used in the sense of “a saline area, unsuitable for cultivation” and the word “dere” used in the sense of “a vale, as well as depression in the lowland”.
