Shirvanjig is a village in the Alexandropol uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Artik district, and currently in the Shirak province. The provincial centre lies 28 km to the southwest of the town of Gumru, at a height of 1,980 m above sea level. “The Iravan Province Review Book” mentions it as the timar (manor) of Mustafa Omar oghlu (Mustafa the son of Omar) with a revenue in the amount of 4.000 akchas. Its name was marked on the five-verst map of the Caucasus.
According to the Treaty of Adrianople (1829), after the settlement of Armenians in the territory of the Iravan khanate, the Azerbaijani population of the village moved to Türkiye.
The toponym was coined by adding the suffix “-jig” to the Turkic ethnonym “Shirvan”.
By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 15 July 1948, it was renamed “Lernakert”. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Shirak prorvince.
