Patrinj is a village in the Echmiadzin uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Ashtarak district, and currently in the Aragatsotn province. The provincial centre lies 7 km to the southwest of the town of Ashtarak, at a height of 1,025 m above sea level. It was mentioned as “Batrinj” in “The Iravan Province Review Book”.
The village was solely inhabited by Azerbaijanis: 51 in 1831, 327 in 1873, 449 in 1886, 463 in 1897, 526 in 1908, 640 in 1914, 599 in 1916, 526 in 1918, and by 310 Azerbaijanis in 1919. In the spring of 1919 the Azerbaijanis, the original inhabitants of the village, were deported by Armenian armed groups or massacred, and then Armenians were settled in the village.
The toponym was coined on the basis of the word “patar” used to mean “a town” in the Urartian language. By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 1 December 1949, the village was renamed “Voskehat”.
According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Aragatsotn province.
