Pashali

Pashali district was established on October 15, 1931. The center of the district with an area of 1173 km² was the city of Soylan. The distance from there to Iravan is 139 km.

The territory of the region was included in the Dereleyaz district of the historical Iravan khanate, and during the period of Tsarist Russia, it was included in the Sharur-Dereleyaz district of the Iravan governorate.

The name of the district was formed based on the the Pasha family name. By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated October 12, 1956, the name of the district was changed and named “Azizbeyov”. In 1991, the name was changed again to “Vayk”.

Since 1987, the native inhabitants of the district – Azerbaijanis were forced to leave their places of residence. In 1995, the district was abolished and included in the administrative territory of Vayotsdzor province of Armenia.
