Ortakend was a village in the Sharur-Daralayaz uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Pashali (Azizbeyov, Vayk) district, and present-day Vayots Dzor province. It was located near the Bashkend, the right tributary of the Arpachay. The name of the village was noted as “Itgiran Ortakend” in Armenian sources. Since the village was located near the village of Itgiran, the toponym was noted as “Itgiran Ortakend”.
The village was inhabited by 169 Azerbaijanis in 1897. As a result of the attacks and massacres committed by Armenian armed units in 1905–1906, the village reduced to ruins.
It was named “Ortakend”, because it was located between two villages.
