Ordakli

Ordakli is a village in the Novo-Bayazid uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Yelenovka (Sevan) district, and currently in the Gegharkunik province. The provincial centre lies 31 km to the northwest of the town of Kavar (Yeni Bayazid, Kamo), on the shores of Lake Goycha, at a height of 1,925 m above sea level. It was mentioned in “The Iravan Province Review Book”.

Historically, the inhabitants of the village were Azerbaijanis. Periodically, the Azerbaijanis were expelled from the village and the Armenians from abroad (Iran and Türkiye) were moved and settled there. In 1897, along with the Armenians, 22 Azerbaijanis lived in the village. As a result of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict in 1905- 1906, the Azerbaijanis were expelled from their historical-ethnic territories by Armenian militants. At present, the village is inhabited by Armenians.

The toponym was coined on the basis of the ethnonym “Ordakli” which belongs to the Gizilbash, one of the Turkic tribes.

By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 26 April 1946, the village was renamed “Lchashen”. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Gegharkunik province.
