Musallam is a village in the Zangezur uezd of the former Yelizavetpol (Ganja) governorate, later in the former Gafan district, and currently in the Syunik province. It lies 17 km to the northwest of Sisian, on the right bank of the Okhchu River, at a height of 1,300 m above sea level. After the establishment of the Zangezur uezd in Soviet Armenia on 31 August 1921, the settlement was integrated into the administrative area of Armenia.
The village was inhabited by 34 Azerbaijanis in 1897, 36 in 1922, 44 in 1926, 104 in 1931, 114 in 1939, 154 in 1959, 449 in 1970 and 390 Azerbaijanis in 1979. In November 1988 the Azerbaijanis were completely deported from their homes by the Armenian state. Currently, the village is inhabited by Armenians.
The toponym was coined on the basis of the personal name.
The name of the settlement is written as “Musallam” in official documents in Armenian. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Syunik province.
