Molla Bayazid

Molla Bayazid is a village in the Echmiadzin uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Gurdugulu (Hoktemberyan) district, and currently in the Armavir province. The provincial centre lies 4 km to the southwest of the town of Serdarabad (Hoktemberyan, Armavir), at the southern foot of Alagoz Mountain, at a height of 865 m above sea level.

The Armenians from the Bitlis and Surmali provinces were settled in the village in 1842, and the Azerbaijanis were gradually expelled from their native lands. Currently, the village is inhabited only by Armenians.

The toponym was coined by combining the word “molla” (mullah) denoting a religious concept, and the oeconym “Beyazid”. By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 3 January 1935, the village was renamed “Bambakashat”. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Armavir province.
