Mehribanli is a village in the Echmiadzin uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Talin district, and currently in the Aragatsotn province. The provincial centre lies 42 km to the northwest of the town of Ashtarak, southwest of Alagoz Mountain, at a height of 1,720 m above sea level. The name of the village was officially “Mehriban”.
The village was solely inhabited by Azerbaijanis: 75 in 1831, 410 in 1873, 598 in 1886, 681 in 1897, 493 in 1908, 523 in 1914, 748 in 1916 and 533 Azerbaijanis at the beginning of 1918. In 1918 the village was exposed to Armenian aggression, the local Azerbaijanis were massacred or deported from their historical and ethnic lands, and the Armenians relocated from the Sasun, Khnis (Hnis) and Mush provinces of Türkiye were settled in the village. At present, the village is inhabited by Armenians.
The toponym was coined on the basis of the name of the “Mehribanli” multi- generational family.
By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 3 April 1950, it was renamed “Katnakhpyur”. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Aragatsotn province.
