Kusus was a village in the territory of the Iravan uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Vedi (Ararat) district, and present-day Ararat province. It was located 22-24 km to the northeast of the settlement of Boyuk Vedi and near the village of Azizkend. The name of the village was noted as “Kususuz” in “The Iravan Province Comprehensive Data Book” dated 1590 and marked as “Kusuz” on the five-verst map of the Caucasus.
The village was inhabited by 221 Azerbaijanis in 1831, 151 in 1873, 203 in 1886, 270 in 1897, 792 in 1904, 860 in 1914 and 268 Azerbaijanis in 1916. The Azerbaijanis had to leave the village as a result of the massacre committed by Armenian armed units in 1919 and sought refuge in the Iranian territory for a while. After the establishment of Soviet power in present- day Armenia, the Azerbaijanis managed to return to their village. The village was inhabited by 46 Azerbaijanis in 1922, 62 in 1926, 70 in 1931 and 149 Azerbaijanis in 1939. The village was abolished, after the Azerbaijani inhabitants of the village had forcibly been deported to Azerbaijan in accordance with the decision decree of the USSR Council of Ministers “On the resettlement of collective farmers and other Azerbaijani population from Armenian SSR to the Kur-Araz lowlands of the Azerbaijan SSR” dated 23 December 1947. At present, it lies in ruins.
