Khojayarli was a village in the Echmiadzin uezd of the Iravan governorate, later in the former Gurdugulu (Hoktemberyan) district, and currently in the Armavir province. The ancient name of the village was “Khojaayarli”. It was located at a 1,415 km distance from the settlement of Gurdugulu and on the left bank of the Araz River. The village was marked on the five-verst map of the Caucasus. The name of the village was also noted as “Khojayar” in sources.
The village was solely inhabited by Azerbaijanis: 85 in 1831, 176 in 1873, 207 in 1886, 210 in 1897, 236 in 1908, 250 in 1914, 229 in 1916, 236 in 1918 and 200 Azerbaijanis in 1919. The Azerbaijanis were massacred by Armenian armed units and had to flee the village in late 1919. The village was abolished in 1924. At present, it lies in ruins.
The toponym was coined on the basis of the multi-generational family name “Khojaayarli”.
