Kamal was a village in the territory of the Iravan uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Ellar (Kotayk, Abovyan) district, and present-day Kotayk province. It was located 8 km to the northeast of Nairi and on the right bank of the Zangi River. The village had been within the Nairi district from 1972. The name of the village was noted in “The Iravan Province Review Book” and marked on the five-verst map of the Caucasus.
The village was inhabited by 37 Azerbaijanis in 1831, 395 in 1873, 565 in 1886, 597 in 1897, 621 in 1904, 780 in 1914, 715 in 1916 and 625 Azerbaijanis in January 1918. Armenian armed units committed massacre in the village in 1905–1906. The Azerbaijanis were attacked, massacred or ousted from the village by Armenian armed units in 1918 for the second time. Later, the village was abolished. At present, it lies in ruins.
