Jizikhlar is a village in the Alexandropol uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Gizil Goch (Gukasyan) district, and currently in the Shirak province. It lies at a distance of 15 km from the Ashosk settlement. It is mentioned in “The Book of Dede Korkut”.
The village was initially inhabited by Azerbaijanis, who moved to Türkiye after Armenians had been settled in the region. In 1828–1830 the Armenians coming from the region of Sebastiya of Türkiye got settled there. Until 1937 it had been within the former Aghbaba district.
The toponym was coined from the word “jizig” used in Turkish in the meaning of “a border”, “the limit”, “a boundary”.
The village was renamed “Tsoghamarg” by the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 12 November 1946. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Shirak province.
