Jarghan was a winter pasture located in the territory of the Borchali uezd of the Tiflis governorate, later in the former Barana (Noyemberyan) district, and present-day Tavush province. It was located near the Lambali (Bagratashen) village. It was united to the Lambali village in the 1930s.
The toponym was coined by adding the suffix “-ghan” to the word “jar” used in the sense of “a creek, ravine, steep creek, abyss” in Turkic. “Charghan” is a phonetic variant of the word “yarghan” (a ravine, cliff) used in the modern Azerbaijani language.
