Ilkhi Gorughu was a village in the Iravan uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Uchkilsa (Echmiadzin, Vagharshapat) district, and currently in the Armavir province. The village was marked on the five-verst map of the Caucasus.
The village was solely inhabited by Azerbaijanis: 242 in 1873, 345 in 1886, 432 in 1897, 215 in 1904, 375 in 1914 and 136 Azerbaijanis in 1916. The Azerbaijanis were attacked, massacred or ousted from the village by Armenian armed units in 1918. The village was abolished in 1920. At present, it lies in ruins.
The toponym was coined by combining the collective noun “ilkhi” (a herd) and the word “gorug” to denote “a village near the wildlife horse reserve”.
