Hasankend is a village in the Sharur-Daralayaz uezd of the former Iravan governorate, in the former Keshishkend (Yeghegnadzor) district, and currently in the Vayots Dzor province. The regional centre is located 13 km to the northwest of the town of Keshishkend, on the banks of the Alayaz River, at a height of 1,270 m above sea level. It was marked on the five-verst map of the Caucasus.
Following the settlement of Armenians in the region, the Azerbaijani inhabitants of the village gradually left their land.
The toponym was coined on the basis of a personal name. It is an anthropotoponym.
By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 3 January 1935, the village was renamed “Shatin”. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative territory of the Vayots Dzor province.
