Hachakilsa is a village in the Alexandropol district of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Artik district, and currently in the Shirak province. The provincial centre is located 23 km to the southeast of the town of Gumru, at a height of 2,020 m above sea level. It was marked as “Khachkilsa” in “The Iravan Province Review Book”.

The village was initially inhabited by Azerbaijanis who gradually left there following the settlement of Armenians in the region.

The toponym was coined by combining the word “hacha” meaning “double, couple”, “two physical-geographical objects with a pointed tip or hill close to each other” and the word “kilsa” meaning “a religious temple”. It is a complex toponym formed on the basis of a relief.

By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 3 January 1935, the village was renamed “Paros”, and by the decree dated January 30, 1961, it was renamed “Nahabetavan”. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative territory of the Shirak province.
