Gurdlubulag

Gurdlubulag is a village in the Alexandropol uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Gizil Goch (Gukasyan) district, and currently in the Shirak province. Another name for the village is “Gurdbulag”. The provincial centre lies 34 km to the north of the town of Gumru, at a height of 1,995 m above sea level.

The village had been inhabited by Azerbaijanis until 1880. The Armenians removed from Türkiye in 1879–1880 were settled in the village.

The toponym was coined by combining the word “gurd” followed by the ending “-lu”, which implies “a soft-bodied, elongated, legless, creeping animal”, and the word “bulag”.

By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR dated 12 January 1946, the name of the village was changed to “Krasar”. According to the law “On the administrative-territorial division of the Republic of Armenia” dated 7 November 1995, it was integrated into the administrative area of the Shirak province.
