Guneygorug was a village in the territory of the Novo-Bayazid uezd of the former Iravan governorate, later in the former Akhta (Hrazdan) district, and present-day Kotayk province. It was located near the village of Derechichak.
In the late 19th century seven Azerbaijanis lived in the village. It was abolished in the late 20th century.
The toponym was coined on the basis of the word “guney” meaning “the south, the side that gets sunlight” and the word “gorug” meaning “planted fields”, “a landlord’s lands not allowed to be used”.
