Goychal is a mountain in the Borchali uezd of the Tiflis governorate, later in the former Barana (Noyemberyan) district, and currently in the Tavush province.

The toponym was formed from the word “goy” used in the sense of “greenery, green grass” in Azerbaijani and the word “chal” used in Turkic to mean “a hill”, “a rocky place”.
